Dealgan & Distaff - The last of the Tour de Fleece Femme '24

Writer: Bobbie Olan CasianoBobbie Olan Casiano

Greetings and welcome to the last video for my Tour de Fleece spinning for 2024. This was my first Tour de Fleece and I decided to extend my Tour to include the Tour de Femme.

For this last week of spinning I power through the third and final single, and plying my first ever fractal spin. To begin, I decide to further split the fibre before wrapping it onto a new "distaff". I then share a timelapse of spinning the whole single, before taking you through bits and pieces of plying this 3 ply yarn. The only thing I didn't manage to do within the Tour timeframe was soaking and whacking the yarn.

Hope you have fun watching me stumble along!

Challenges:

- Learn to spin on a dealgan spindle

- Learn to use a distaff (a long broom handle to mimic a floor distaff)

- Spin a fractal for the first time

- Spin semi-woollen for the first time (since beginners spinning class)

Resources

Fibre: Ixchel Bunny

Blend: Shetland Dream (Shetland, mulberry silk, cashmere)

Colourway: Ankh Morpork
